Sherbrooke, October 8, 2025 – ROQHAS is proud to announce the launch of its provincial awareness campaign, which will run from October 19 to November 19, 2025. Under the theme “Talking about it, what difference does it make?”, various video clips will be broadcast, featuring the testimonies of four men who have experienced one or more sexual assaults. The objective of this campaign is to give a voice to these men, encourage them to seek help, and introduce ROQHAS’s network of specialized organizations. In Quebec, between 10 and 20% of men will experience sexual assault during their lifetime. The consequences can result in a wide range of long-term negative effects on psychological functioning, physical functioning, daily life, and interpersonal skills. We know that men are less likely than women to disclose at the time of abuse, and when they do disclose, they take longer to do so. Shame and fears surrounding disclosure persist despite increased awareness of sexual violence in recent years.
Talking about it, what difference does it make?
Disclosing sexual assault can be a long process. When a man is ready to talk about it, he should know that there are resources available. Support exists. With this in mind, ROQHAS presents its new interactive map of organizations and resources on its website: https://roqhas.org/ressources-et-organismes/.
Men who have experienced sexual violence deserve access to quality support services throughout Quebec. Recognizing the extent of the consequences for these men and addressing their needs, regardless of where they come from, are ways to prevent them from being revictimized. ROQHAS, its members, and partners work tirelessly to eliminate stigma and provide essential support.
